Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards dominated Saturday's Royal Purple 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race until the last round of green flag pit stops began with 20 laps remaining. Harvick and Edwards each took on four tires while Kyle Busch opted for two on the JGR Toyota, a race winning move that put Busch in front for the final 13 laps.
Busch, who had a more than two second advantage when he exited pit road, survived last lap contact with the outside retaining wall to cross the finish line 0.7 seconds ahead of Carl Edwards in scoring his eighth victory at Auto Club Speedway.
“I thought that was a great way to win the race. We stole this one, it wasn’t ours,” said Busch. "We had a third or fourth place car today."
Edwards settled for second after leading 48 laps of the 150-lap event. Harvick led a race-high 64 laps and finished third followed by Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. and Elliott Sadler.
Stenhouse, Jr. is the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series point leader with five races in the record book. Nationwide drivers have next week off before heading to Texas Motor Speedway on April 8th.
