The Nationwide and Truck Series take center stage in Music City for a great weekend of racing with action kicking off today at the 1.333-mile Nashville Superspeedway. Joining the circuit in 2001, Nashville is one of three NASCAR tracks with a concrete surface. Located about 30 minutes outside of the Country Music Capitol of the World, the Easter weekend stop at the high-banked facility has become a tradition for Nationwide and Truck Series competitors while Sprint Cup Series drivers are at home with their families.

The inaugural Nationwide Series visit to the Nashville Superspeedway was held on April 14, 2001. Known then as the Busch Series, the 300-miler was sponsored by Pepsi.  Kevin Harvick started from the pole with Jeff Green and Bobby Hamilton, Jr. lining up second and third.  A rookie by the name of Greg Biffle, behind the wheel of the No. 60 Roush Ford, started fourth in the 43-car field.

Biffle drove to the front of the pack on lap 56 and traded the lead with Green for the next 16 laps. At the end of the day he had dominated the race, leading 133 of the 225-lap event, to pick up his first Nationwide Series victory.  Biffle crossed the finish line .602 seconds ahead of Jason Keller with Scott Wimmer, Randy LaJoie and Elton Sawyer completing the top-five finishers.

The first Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway followed NASCAR’s Nationwide debut. On August 10, 2001, Scott Riggs won from the pole as Ted Musgrave, Rick Crawford, Joe Ruttman and Travis Kvapil followed him across the finish line.

Happy Easter everyone!
