Trevor Bayne recorded the fastest lap in Friday night's final NASCAR Nationwide Series practice for Saturday's STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. The 2011 Daytona 500 winner clocked in at 174.081 mph after being sidelined for five races with an unknown illness.
Nationwide Series point leader Elliott Sadler was second fastest in the closing session followed by Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Carl Edwards and Mikey Kile.
Aric Almirola’s lap at 174.661 mph topped the speed chart in opening practice with Stenhouse, Jr. second at 172.783 mph. Sam Hornish, Jr., Elliott Sadler and Mikey Kile completed the top-five.
Qualifying for the STP 300 gets underway Saturday at 4:35 p.m. with the race set to go at 8 p.m. ET.
