Brad Keselowki won a thrilling Kroger 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway Saturday night in Indianapolis after bumping past Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. for the lead in the final laps.
The race went into overtime with Stenhouse lining up on the outside of Keselowski on the last restart. Keselowski pulled away after running Stenhouse up to the wall in turns one and two. James Buescher got by Stenhouse for second in the green-white-checkered finish.
Stenhouse, who led a race-high 188 laps, settled for third with Aric Almirola and Carl Edwards completing the top-five.
“Ricky deserved to win this race with the car he had," Keselowski said.
Polesitter Stenhouse had the point to himself for most of the night until the field bunched up during several late-race cautions.
"It's frustrating," said Stenhouse. "Brad Keselowski is a little better on restarts than I am. I think we learned a lot here, it was a good night for us."
It was a tough night for a number of drivers including Tim Andrews, Michael Annett and Steve Wallace who were responsible for red-flag with 24 laps to go.
The incident began with Andrews and Annett crashing in turn three then collecting the car of Wallace. All three machines were heavily damaged.
Elliott Sadler also had a long day at the track. Sadler had to go to a backup car after hitting the turn one wall in qualifying requiring him to start in the back according to NASCAR rules. The Virginia native spun and was hit by KHI teammate Austin Dillon to bring out the final caution.
"I just lost it," said a disappointed Sadler. "It was my fault. It wasn't meant to be tonight."
Stenhouse leaves Indianapolis with the Nationwide point lead as the series heads to Iowa Speedway next weekend.
