Well this weekend of racing kind of ran the gamut emotions wise. My first shout out goes to James Buescher for having a great weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway Park. Between Thursday night and Saturday night he ran three major races and finished no worse than third in any of them!
Buescher finished third in the ARCA race Thursday night, then second in both the Camping World Truck and Nationwide Series races.
I thought it was kind of bizarre at the end of the truck race, Timothy Peters comes around after winning to do his celebratory burnout; and Ricky Carmichael is stopped at the bottom of the race track, and Austin Dillon at the top. Both of them were not running, I’m guessing both ran out of fuel in the fuel mileage derby. Too bad we might never see trucks or Nationwide cars at LORP again……
Congrats on yet another new winner this season on the Sprint Cup series, Paul Menard (he was my pick for the next first time winner); played strategy perfectly to get his first win in one of NASCAR’s marquis races. Fuel mileage was the key in this race as well, bringing a fairly exciting finish to what was in my opinion a fairly unexciting race. While the drama of these fuel derbies is exciting, I really dislike watching the field go into fuel conservation mode.
Who are the greatest racers of all time? Well that topic will always be a great debate topic. If there was any doubt before, I definitely think Tony Stewart just took one more step towards the top of that list this week.
It’s no secret that Mr. Stewart is often found on the dirt tracks of this country, but this week he won his first A main of his career on the World of Outlaws tour. No easy feat, especially only racing those winged sprints part time.
If I’m correct, that makes victories in USAC sprint, midgets, Silver Crown cars, as well as the WoO sprints, dirt late models, Nationwide series, Sprint Cup series, Camping World trucks, and Indy cars. I think he also won in a Northeast big block modified also. Not only that, but he is a champion of every tour he has run full time. Amazing….
Until next week, keep the shiny side up!!
