Jeffrey Earnhardt has signed to drive in the NASCAR owned Grand Am Series and will compete for the 2012 championship title, according to a release issued Thursday morning by Rick Ware Racing.
The twenty-two-year-old driver wheeled a GT3 Porsche with the RWR team in the 2011 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona posting an 11th in class and 25th overall in the world famous endurance race.
“I have never experienced any type of racing like that before," said Jeffrey Earnhardt. "It was definitely a rush and look forward to competing in the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in 2012 with RWR again."
Earnhardt started out the 2011 season with RWR in the Truck Series with sponsorship sidelining the entry in March. Earnhardt rejoined the team for several Nationwide races including Charlotte and Daytona.
Jeffrey will pilot car No. 15 for the full 2012 schedule which means he will compete at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the inaugural event at the historical track during next season's Sprint Cup weekend.
“To compete at the Brickyard is a dream for any racer in any series," stated Earnhardt. "The history is rich and the atmosphere is electric. To be a part of the inaugural event makes it that much sweeter."
