Carl Edwards overcame a pit road penalty and pulled away from the field on the final restart to dominate Saturday night's Great Clips 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Edwards started from the pole and held the point for the first 43 laps before a penalty for equipment outside of his pit stall sent him to the back of the field. Edwards quickly threaded his way back to the front to lead the most laps and cross the finish line 0.697 seconds ahead of Kyle Busch.

"I can't believe we won the pole and the race," Edwards said. "This track is a blast, I can't wait for tomorrow."

Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. finished third with Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne completing the top-five.

Reed Sorenson, contending for the 2011 Nationwide championship, slapped the outside retaining wall with 25 laps remaining when teammate Justin Allgaier made contact with the rear of his No. 32 Chevrolet. The incident collected Trevor Bayne sending both Sorenson and Bayne to the garage for the night.

Sorensen, who trailed Stenhouse by 10 points in the championship race entering Atlanta, is now 40 points out of the lead as a result of finishing 32nd.

“I will tell you one thing, I’ll find him after the race, and it’ll be between me and him, I promise you,” said Sorenson.
