Four years after making the switch from IndyCar Sam Hornish scored his first NASCAR victory in today's Wypall 200 Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
"I can't hardly believe it," said Hornish. "It's been a great day."
Hornish passed Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. on a restart near the midway point and held off his Penske teammate Brad Keselowski to take the win.
Keselowski finished second followed by Carl Edwards, Joey Logano and Stenhouse.
Stenhouse extended his point lead to 41 over Elliott Sadler after Sadler was hit from behind by Jason Leffler while Leffler was racing polesitter Aric Almirola.
The wreck brought out the red flag while track crews cleaned up the debris and eliminated all three drivers from the race, leaving Sadler with a 27th place finish.
"It's all my fault," Leffler said. "It certainly wasn't anything I wanted to do."
The Nationwide Series 2011 season finale is scheduled for next Saturday, November 19th in Homestead, Florida.
