Action Packed Weekend In The World Of Outlaws

The weekend began with Donny Schatz starting from the pole on Friday night at Attica Raceway Park in Ohio. Starting up front, the three-time champion seemed to be in the prime spot to take yet another win in 2009. However, the red flag was waved before the opening lap could be completed calling for a complete restart.

On the ensuing restart, Jason Meyers was able to get a good jump on Schatz to take the early lead. Meyers was unable to hold the lead for the remainder of the race. On the 10th lap Schatz reclaimed the top spot and began to pull away.

A restart on lap 16 put the cars in close quarters, and on the restart Dale Blaney passed Meyers making his way into the second spot. Incapable of catching Schatz in lapped traffic, Blaney was able to capitalize when Schatz spun out after coming in contact with a lapped car on lap 31. Blaney then was able to cruise to the victory for his first win since 2001.

Disappointed that he didn’t get the win by a fair pass rather than a crash, Blaney remained glad that he was able to finish first.

“I wish that wouldn't have happened, but those things do happen,” said Blaney. “We were coming on at the end. We were catching him and he is awfully good when the track gets like this. My car was really good and I would have liked to have tested him a little bit.”

The following night, the World of Outlaws were set to compete at I-96 Speedway in Michigan.

Meyers began the race from the pole and never let go of the top position despite many challenges from 20-time series champion Steve Kinser. Taking his third A-Feature win of the season, Meyers moved just 49 points away from Schatz in the series point standings.

“Kraig (Kinser) was real good on the restarts and he just about got me a couple of times,” Meyers stated. “It was real important on that last restart to get off the corner good. I was waiting a little too long to restart and he was getting a good run on me. Charlie Garrett builds us amazing engines and they restart very well and get into the corner.

“We're getting better each and every night and continue to work on things,” Meyers noted. “There have been a few tracks this year where we weren't worth a darn, and I think we are now getting where we need to be. My hat is off to these guys that work on this thing every day, because they make my job look easy. They do a great job and I can't thank them enough.”
