joey-saldanaJoey Saldana led only three laps of Friday night's 40 lap World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A - Main Feature at the U.S. 36 Raceway. Fortunately for him one of the three was the all important final lap, resulting in his 11th win of 2009. The win is a historical one as it places Saldana 10th on the list of all time World of Outlaws A - Feature winners with 50 career victories.

“I don't know what to say” said Saldana in Victory Lane. “I'm very proud of this team and this is a great team. It's great to win. My dad just got inducted into the BCRA (Big Car Racing Association) Hall of Fame today so it's pretty cool to win here tonight.”

Saldana battled long - time friend Johnny Herrera for most of the race, swapping the lead more than a dozen times on the high - banked Missouri track.

“It's great to see Johnny (Herrera) back out here running with the Outlaws,” said Saldana. “He's been winning 30 or 40 races a year back in Albuquerque and wherever, so he deserves to be back out here.”

terry-mccarlTerry McCarl arrived at the Knoxville Raceway, his home track, on Saturday hungry for a win. With three runner - up finishes thus far in 2009, McCarl and his crew were prepared, to say the least.

McCarl dominated the 7 minute caution free race at the legendary half - mile in Iowa, leading flag to flag from the pole.

“It felt good to come home and win tonight and to hold off Donny Schatz,” said McCarl. “I always feel like these are good tune-ups for the (Knoxville) Nationals. We almost won this race last time and he got us late in the race. I feel like we are a contender if we keep our stuff together.”
