Danny Lasoski made it a 4th of July to remember for his Parson's Motorsports team by scoring his 3rd win of the season with a flag to flag victory in the Eagle Nationals at the 1/3 mile Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Nebraska. Lasoski began his evening by setting the 2nd fastest qualifying time before winning the Crane Cams Dash to take pole position. From there he was never headed though he had to defend against a fast-running Sammy Swindell, who had himself set a new track record during qualifying. Joey Saldana continued his strong run of form by rounding out the podium in 3rd place.
The win was the 84th career World of Outlaws feature victory for 2001 Champion Lasoski, and his 3rd at the track. Having started off the season relatively slowly, Lasoski and team have come on strong in the past two months with the new JEI chassis that Crew Chief Barry Jackson designed for this season. Lasoski is now fighting for the top-5 in the overall standings and eying further victories.
“It feels great to win here,” said Lasoski. “We're getting better and better. Each race we continue to improve. We are getting our package where it needs to be. Paul Kistler has put in countless hours to get our engine program going and Barry Jackson, Sumo and Sheldon my crew guys are working their tails off.” Swindell was left somewhat disappointed on the evening, feeling that victory was possible for he and is Tom Rolfe Racing team given his record-breaking pace on a clear track: “I think we were maybe a touch quicker, but there just wasn't any place to go. Our car was good right on the bottom and then when he (Lasoski) moved down a little bit lower that kind of took the line away really. I tried to go up and it just wasn't as quick. I was hoping we'd get a few breaks with the lapped cars. We got the one that we split, he went under it and I went around. It just didn't exactly work out. Track position made a big difference tonight. We're happy we were able to run with how our luck has been this past month or so. We have a good car the circumstances just haven't showed it.” Saldana, who leads the series with 11 victories this season, continued to chip away at the gap to series points leader Donny Schatz , whom he now trails by only 44 points on the season. The podium marked Saldana's 18th top-5 finish of the season and there is little doubt he is making a serious run at the championship for the Kasey Kahne Motorsports Racing team.
“It was a pretty good night,” said Saldana. “We just couldn't really get a handle on this track. It was pretty tight and we did the best we could. We got caught up with a lapped car and that cost me a spot and I rode around in third after that.” Craig Dollansky won both the SuperClean Start of the Night and KSE Hard Charger awards by moving up from 8th at the start to 4th at the finish, a resulted culminated by a last lap pass of Lucas Wolfe, who rounded out the top 5. The World of Outlaws Sprint series continues with a race Wednesday night at 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa.
