Jesse “The Rocket” Hockett took home a whopping $15,000 after winning the USAC National Sprint Casey’s General Stores “Ultimate Challenge” on August 11th at Southern Iowa Speedway.
Hockett took the checkers by a mere .045 seconds over defending race winner Dave Darland.
Hockett and Darland started on the front row together and forced the race officials to call back the green flag more than once. First Darland jumped and then Hockett jumped. “Neither one of us wanted to give the other the lead at the start,” Hockett said on his website. “Dave (Darland) and I have been battling all year really.” Darland led the first 15 laps of the event until Hockett over took him and led the rest of the way. "I didn't know what I was going to do that last lap," Hockett said. "The bottom was good, and so was the top. Dave Darland is such a great competitor; I knew he'd be there. I just tried to stay in my line and hope he wouldn’t get around me. My crew and my owners put a great car under me, and I can't thank them enough." A handful of drivers flipped during the day’s events including Travis Rilot who went over during the feature which brought out the red flag. Chad Boat, points leader Levi Jones, and Cole Whitt rounded out the top-5. Jones now has a 48-point lead over Darland in the championship standings. MORE WORLD OF OUTLAWS NEWS
