For the second year in a row and for the sixth time in the history of the event, a man named Swindell got the win in the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals.
Last year and four other times it was legendary driver Sammy Swindell taking the checkers. This year it is his 20-year-old son Kevin Swindell who took home the hardware.
He led the final 26 laps of the 50-lap event and crossed the stripe ahead of 2nd place Cole Whitt and his father who finished 3rd. “This year he (Kevin) had a race that didn’t tear up anything, this year I tore up a lot,” the elder Swindell said. “But we salvaged a first and a third, so we’ll have to come back next year and try to make it a one-two like it probably could have been last year.” The younger Swindell started on the outside pole but dropped back as low as sixth before making his challenge toward the front.
“I felt like the best laps I ran all night were on the restarts, so I was somewhat confident but I knew I had to go,” he said. Jerry Coons Jr. finished 4th and Chris Windom ended up 5th. Kasey Kahne Racing driver Brad Sweet finished 9th while his boss, NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne, ended up 18th. MORE WORLD OF OUTLAWS NEWS
