As the old saying goes, "There's no place like home" and for Texas native Sam Hafertepe Jr. there is no place like home to win his first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-Main Feature event. Hafertepe, Jr. will have the opportunity to accomplish that goal as the World of Outlaws will appear at the 24-year old Texas native's home track, the Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Friday night to open the Second Annual Texas Two-Step Weekend.
"It would probably mean more than anything, because of all the hard work we have put in at that place," shared Hafertepe when asked about winning Friday's A-Main. "For the hometown fans and crowd, it would be great. We ran second there last year and hopefully we can come home with a win this time."
Hafertepe finished second to Kasey Kahne Racing driver Joey Saldana in last fall's WoO Fest at the track owned by his parents. "We've tried to make a few changes to the facility and try to make it better each time everyone comes back," explained Sam Jr. "The track surface itself is about the same and should be in great shape. We're really looking forward to it." Excited to be racing in front of a hometown crowd of hardcore race fans, Hafertepe says there is no real home track advantage when you are racing against the best sprint car drivers in the world. "It's probably more pressure than anything, trying to perform in front of all the people that know me," shared Hafertepe. "For the most part, I don't think there is really any home track advantage. It is extra pressure, but it's not anything we can't handle. We're going to throw everything we have at it and hopefully things fall our way." MORE WORLD OF OUTLAWS NEWS
