Steve Kinser Claims Victory In Canada

steve-kinserLegendary World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series driver Steve Kinser added another page to the history books Tuesday night, winning the series debut at Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada before a standing room only crowd of hardcore race fans.

“It is special,” Kinser said after recording another inaugural event win. “I thought we may have been jinxed earlier when Johnny (Gibson) said earlier how we have won a lot of races in our first time at a track and I know we have, but you sort of hate hearing it before you go out there. To get another first win is great.”

Kinser started from the outside of the front row and battled his Tony Stewart Racing teammate, polesitter Donny Schatz, in the opening laps of the 35-lap event. Kinser moved out front on lap five whie exiting turn four to lead the field through three double-file restarts and capture the victory.

“The leader gets to set the pace with the line he chooses, so I choked them down a bit and caught the moisture getting off (turn) four,” Kinser explained. “I didn’t want them to get up to speed and get a run at me coming off four. They were pretty slow starts, but that’s what you have to do sometimes, pick a spot and do what you can.”

Paul McMahan rode the Kasey Kahne Racing Great Clips Maxim to a second place finish.

“We’ve been real good,” said McMahan. “The car was awesome fast all night long. It’s just great to be back in Canada. The fans are great and it’s unbelievable how packed the place is. Hopefully we’ll be back many times down the road.”

McMahan's KKR teammate and current points leader Joey Saldana finished third, Jason Meyers fourth and Chad Kemenah fifth.

Donny Schatz suffered mechanical problems while running second and wound up 17th.

The 2010 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule continues with two big nights of racing, Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31 at Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada.
