jason-meyers-wins-commonwealth-clashJason Meyers extended his point lead in the 2011 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship battle after taking the checkered flag in Saturday night's Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway, his fifth victory of the season.

"Wins have been so hard to come by this year," said Meyers. "We had a great car all night and then when we got to lap traffic, you never knew where they were going to go. Some went high, some went low. You had to be very patient tonight when it came to getting through all of it. Our car seemed to work really well around the top. I need to thank Brian Bloomfield) for pointing that out to me during the last yellow flag. Just was another great run for our entire DDNi/Media-Tile/GLR Investments/All-Star Performance team and we’ll use this to go into Williams Grove this weekend."

Meyers started fourth in the 24-car field and inherited the lead on lap 13 of the 35-lap main event when polesitter Sam Hafertepe, Jr. experienced mechanical problems after holding the point for the first dozen  laps. The California native held off Donny Schatz for the win.

"We had a really good car tonight," said Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart Racing #15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet. "My guys really put their MAC tools to work tonight. The top side was working for us pretty good there for awhile. We were able to catch people in lap traffic so those late race restarts hurt us a bit."

Sammy Swindell, who started on the outside of the front row, finished third with Jason Sides fourth and Kraig Kinser fifth. Jac Haudenschild earned the KSE Hard Charger Award after coming all the way from 22nd to sixth.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series now heads to Williams Grove Speedway for the National Open Weekend set for Friday, September 30th and Saturday, October 1st.
