“Slammin’” Sammy Swindell made a late-race pass on Brian Brown to win Friday night’s opener in the sixth annual PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals Presented by NAPA Auto Parts at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Brown and Swindell waged a spirited battle in the final laps with Swindell going low in three and four as the duo raced toward the white flag. The Tennessee native pulled away for his 13th World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

“It’s great to get a win down here. I just had to be patient and I didn’t want to use up the tires or the car. We worked it out just right.” said Swindell. “They only pay for the last lap, so that’s the only one I wanted to lead.”

Kraig Kinser followed Swindell past Brown on the frontstretch with one to go but Brown got back by Kinser in turn one and held on for second at the stripe.

"My tire felt like it just got a little bit low and I just couldn't turn like I should have and just got beat," Brown said. "Me and Sammy were just going to wear each other out if we had to, and we came up second."

Kinser completed the podium with Paul McMahan coming all the way from 13th to finish fourth. Jason Johnson rounded out the top-five.

"I'd kind of lose them in the turns because I was running so low on the race track," Kinser said. "It wasn't where I wanted to be, but I was just trying to go where they weren't. You never know what can happen - they bump a little bit, kill both of their momentum and I could sneak around. That's what I was hoping for and it just didn't work out."

Donny Schatz, who did not advance to the A-Main for the first time in 2012, leads Craig Dollansky by 124 markers in the championship chase heading into tonight’s season finale.

SPEED will broadcast the action live from Charlotte Saturday night at 8:00 p.m.
